Denis Napthine

Denis Napthine grew up as one of 10 children on his family’s farm at Winchelsea.

He attended Winchelsea State School, Chanel College in Geelong and completed a Degree in Veterinary Science at Melbourne University.

Denis subsequently completed a Masters Degree in Veterinary Studies at Melbourne University and a Masters of Business Administration at Deakin University.

He worked as a country veterinarian based in Hamilton from 1975-1988.

Denis was elected to the Victorian State Parliament in October 1988 and served for 27 years as the Member for Portland and South West Coast.

He also served as Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Minister for Youth and Community Services in the Kennett Government.

Later he served as Minister for Major Projects, Ports, Regional Cities and Racing and was Premier of Victoria in 2013 and 2014.

Denis is passionate about Regional and Rural issues across Victoria and Australia.

Dr Napthine recently chaired the Regional Education Expert Advisory Group for the Minister for Education which delivered the National Regional, Rural and Remote Tertiary Education Strategy.
